Writing Press Release for Online Business

One of the fundamentals of Internet Businesses is knowing how to introduce your business and its products and updates to your audience. Once of the best and known ways of doing this is by putting out an Online Business Press Release.

What is a press release and what needs to be included in one to grab most people’s attention?

A press release in its definition is a statement prepared for distribution to the media. Its purpose is to give information that is useful, accurate and interesting. Those are the three words that you need to keep in mind when writing a press release.

Now let’s begin. First Step – Press Releases should always be written on company letterheads. If this is not possible, then at least the company logo should be displayed. At the top of the page, your company name, web address, location address and phone number should be clearly stated. PRESS RELEASE should be in all CAPS and the contact person’s details should be clearly mentioned underneath this heading. If your press release is for IMMEDIATE RELEASE then this should be mentioned at the left margin, directly above the title.

Second Step – Headline or title of the press release. This should be in bold letters and centered. This is an important section of your press release as this is where you can grab the attention of the audience. Your title should ideally be short, straightforward and catchy.

Third Step – The body of your press release. This should start with the date and city for which the press release is originated. This is also where we include the who, what, where, when, why of the press release therefore accuracy and clarity are extremely important points to consider. It is also important to word your press release so that it’s interesting to the reader as well as informative. You can also include a quote or two to add that personal touch to your press release.

Finally, see if all of the below check list is completed before release.
  • Company Letterhead, Name, Address, Phone Number, Web Address
  • PRESS RELEASE in all caps
  • Contact Person's Name
  • Immediate Release or Release Date(all caps)
  • HEADLINE or TITLE in BOLD/CAPS
  • BODY-Date/City-who,what,when,where and why.
  • Catchy Text
  • Sum it up...
  • Basic Font, Double Spaced, Page Numbers, and ###
